Late
in the year 1913, a strip of land, consisting mostly of sand dunes,
was purchased by sugar manufacturer John D. Spreckels. Spreckels had
visions of a beach front resort where people could come and enjoy the
warm sand and cool ocean breeze. An amusement park was built and Mission
Bay was eventually transformed into the largest aquatic park in the
country. Come with me as I talk with some longtime, Mission Beach residence
and explore the history of this great little beach town. I hope you
enjoy this episode of Wonderland as much as I enjoyed filming it.
